Royal Mail Award

In 2002 Simone Nelson won an award with the Royal Mail for her mail order business. She was featured on the front page of the Royal Mail magazine, "The Winning Post"

The text reads:

Simone Nelson has landed herself a whopper - one of the most coveted direct marketing awards in the UK.

The owner of Dundonnel Smoked Salmon has been named the overall winner of Royal Mail's Winning Post Awards 2002 which recognise and reward the most outstanding examples of direct mail produced bu small and medium-sized businesses.

A newsletter sent to her customers clinched Simone the coveted business prize - not to mention the £33,000 of orders it prompted. She also picked up a category prize in the Loyal Mail section of the awards.

Simone said: "The emailing exceeded all our expectations. We reminded our customers what they'd bought last year, showed them how we had improved our services during the year and reminded them of our Christmas despatch dates. We're really pleased our work has been recognised in this way."

The company also sent a leaflet detailing its history and its dedication in providing the highest quality smoked salmon. The company offers a wide selection of products, including special "Mild Highland Cure", and "Traditional" smoke as well as Gravadlax, Piri-piri salmon and a range of gift packs.

Derek Fairhurst, Royal Mail Director, Distance Selling said: "Dundonnell's campaign really got to the heart of the judges. And it's this kind of campaign that sums up what these awards have always been about. We're championing smaller businesses with smaller budgets who are still producing brilliant work - you don't have to be a big corporation with a big budget to be effective."
